What's this? another traditional media post? ... crazy days ;)

The Octorilla (Octopus and Gorilla) is one of the smartest creatures in the mutant zoo. A formidable aquatic Mammal with highly evolved amphibian-like features, the nostrils can completely close to enable the creature to use its gills underwater. As an omnivore, it's strength and the suckers on it's tentacles and hands make it a formidable hunter while their highly developed speech centers in their brains make them great communicators, capable or working together to take down larger prey. The Octorilla can exist quite happily for periods of time on land for when water-based food is scarce but their bulk makes it difficult for them to move around with any speed, so their terranian diet consists mostly of fruit, vegetables and plants.
Social Hirearchy is very important to the Ocotiralla, who give birth to (usually a single) live young who is suckled for many months. A young baby will be looked after by all members of the social group, whether family or not.

The specimine pictured above is the lead male, who's feircely protective of his family and very terratorial, however when more relaxed he seems to enjoy swimming to the viewing glass in the tank and inspecting the guests at the zoo, he seems to have a particular connection with the younger children who visit the zoo.

This over-grown sea monkey was the hardest to nail so far, I had loads of ideas for designs but didn't like any of them... eventually last night after much fustration I came out with this pic, which is probably the most detailed single character drawing I've done in my entire life. lol. I think he's now my favorite member of the MZ crew so far.

Will colour when I get the time.

The detail here does really suck you in, and the sharpie outlines make it pop like anything.

One begins to wonder if there is, in fact, a medium with which you cannot work?

thanks!
but oh yeah, there are plenty! lol ... I'm hopeless with anything oil-based.. like oil paints and oil pastels... and I'm not so hot with water-colours either. You'll notice a distinct lack of any of those mediums in my gallery ;)

I never got on with paint brushes, they always seemed like they were alive and not very fond of me.

yeah.. I'm more at home with a pen and stylus for sure.. but I guess the trick with painting is to use that essence of the brush to your example. it's like anything I guess, gotta learn to understand/interpret the medium before one can master it.

Ah yes, but if the brush is sentient and does not like you... Tricky.

Alternatively, perhaps a truly incompetent artist blames his tools. I've been having stern words with pens lately, so either the adage is true or I am developing schizophrenia.

or perhaps both? ;)

Well, that would be a tricky thing for my brain to do to me...

Yep, sounds like him.
